Independent Power Corporation secured the mining rights to an estimated 150 million tons of coal in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa. In 2007, these rights were transfered to Strategic Natural Resources PLC. In addition to supplying coal for local brickmaking industries and households, the coal will be used to fire a 400MW power station built, maintained and operated by IPSA Group plc. The project will utilise state of the art clean coal technology in order to minimise emissions and achieve maximum efficiency from the mined coal.
